Outreach Programs

FISH FOOD PROGRAM
Working daily through twenty-nine community churches and the FISH Hospitality Pantries, FISH volunteers responded to some 82,000 calls for help last year by delivering food to the needy. MPUMC answers calls for food on the fourth Friday of each month. Volunteers are needed to answer calls, pack food, and deliver the food to the callers.

If you have found this page and are in need of food, call FISH at 523-7900, Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 to 4:00.

Missionary Support
Claire Lovelace is a church and community worker assigned to the Knoxville District by the Board of Global Ministries. She assists churches in doing outreach in their communities. Claire's work includes congregational-based community organizing and resourcing local outreach ministries. Our church helps supplement her salary.

Care and Share
A fund used to provide one-time assistance to those who call or come by the church needing immediate aid. Offerings left at the altar rail during Holy Communion go to this project.

Contact
A confidential telephone helpline and crisis intervention program staffed by volunteers from various denominations. Needed: Financial assistance and phone volunteers. Fifty hours of training is required. New classes begin each fall and spring.

Inner City Ministries
Emerald Avenue United Methodist Church and Lynnwood United Methodist Church offer spiritual, educational and recreational opportunities to urban children, teens and adults. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs, ranging from renovating Sunday School rooms to tutoring students.

Habitat For Humanity
A Christian-oriented ministry that helps low-income families in need of permanent housing to build a home. The home is sold to the family at no interest. Needed: Financial assistance for our church to be a covenant partner and volunteers to provide the labor to build a house. For information on any current Habitat activities, click here!

Short-Term Missions
Domestic and foreign short-term missions (7-14 days) are available to interested individuals. Our church has sent volunteer teams to Mississippi  to aid in Hurricane Katrina relief, Costa Rica, and many areas in and around East Tennessee. Home and building repair, medical assistance, and providing a children's Bible school are a few of the services these teams have provided.
